Philip Vivian

Philip Vivian is the Managing Director of Bates Smart. He is an architect and urban designer, and has studied city design at the London School of Economics and Columbia University in New York.
A specialist in large scale, commercial projects, Philip has helped shape Sydney’s architecture, transport and public domain, setting the course for the city’s successful development as it faces unprecedented growth. Key projects include Sydney 2050-2070, the City of Sydney’s vision plan for future urban transformation, and the integrated station developments at the Victoria Cross Metro Station in North Sydney and Pitt Street South in the Sydney CBD.
Philip is the President of the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) in Australia, and a Contributing Editor to Architecture Australia. He is on the UNSW Advisory Council and has lectured and taught architecture and urban design at a range of Australian universities. In addition to architecture, he talks regularly on cities, density, tall buildings and sustainable urban development.
