The launch of The Fox: NGV Contemporary Design Competition Exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre recognises the vast contributions of eight multidisciplinary Australian design teams to the recent architecture competition for the new NGV Contemporary building.

 

Our design team, including Bates Smart, Smart Design Studio, studioplusthree, Taylor Cullity Lethlean, Arup, Eckersley O’Callaghan, Steensen Varming and Studio Ongarato, imagined a contemporary 21st Century gallery that amplifies the role of art and design in the cultural life of Victoria. Inspiration came from the rich physical, cultural and geological history of the site to create a sinuous and layered stratum of forms that would bend light across its iridescent surface, creating a welcoming place that enabled new ways of experiencing contemporary art and design within.
