Exemplar and enduring housing solutions

NSW Government Apartment Design Guide

Exemplar Case Studies

The NSW Government Architect and the Department of Planning and Environment have recently released eleven case studies to guide industry and authorities on relevant aspects of the Apartment Design Guide.

Their intent is to provide creative examples of high-quality, liveable and sustainable housing solutions in response to different site constraints. Two of Bates Smart’s own enduring designs are among the case study projects.

Gantry is a hybrid housing solution in Sydney’s inner city, combining adaptive reuse of a former industrial site with a diverse collection of new buildings “coming together as a cohesive composition.”

Boomerang Tower responds to its Sydney Olympic Park address with a high-density, high-amenity tower, “that cleverly evolves the typology” in a striking sculptural form.
