A green avenue uniting Hyde Park

Park Street

The vision for Park Street transforms it into a green avenue uniting the northern and southern halves of Hyde Park.

This green boulevard would extend all the way from Kings Cross in the east to George Street, Sydney’s civic spine in the CBD.

We envisage Park Street as a traffic-calmed and pedestrian-oriented avenue running through the heart of the city and freeing up road space for trees, planting and people. By incentivising traffic to use the Cross City Tunnel – a currently underutilised piece of infrastructure – access on surface roads is limited to local traffic, service vehicles, public transport and cyclists.

Park Street will become a major arterial connection in a future network of pedestrian-friendly spaces being developed by the City of Sydney. The wider Green Avenue initiative will increase urban tree canopy cover and open space and contribute to a more resilient city.
