Legacy style to shape a contemporary law firm
Maddocks Sydney
Located within Sydney’s first skyscraper at 33 Alfred Street, Maddocks’ new workplace draws on the building’s post-war international style legacy to shape a contemporary law firm environment.
Embracing minimalism, rational materiality and structural expression, the design captures the essence of Maddocks’ law firm – timeless, innovative and people-first.
The workplace is a contemporary interpretation of the 1960s architecture and leverages the tower’s strong geometry, pure forms and bold proportions to create cohesion with the base building. For example, the mosaic tiles from the original lift lobbies inform the approach to graphics and colour narrative. Timber panelling, rectilinear forms and signature colour pairings are balanced with an organic overlay of furniture and lighting inspired by mid-century industrial design.
The result is a harbourside modernist workplace – with sweeping views across Sydney Harbour, that is grounded in local context, fostering connection, clarity and enduring quality.
