A destinational retail location for travellers
Lotte Duty Free, Sydney
The Korean retail giant’s Australian flagship is designed to be a destination for travellers.
Lotte’s flagship duty free store in Sydney offers greater options to purchase premium goods outside the busy airport setting. The three-level, 3,000sqm boutique shopping space has helped the Korean retail giant’s global business become Australia’s top duty free operator.
Clearly visible from the outside corner of Pitt and Market streets, a dramatic procession of large sculptural columns with integrated overlapping petal shaped canopies float above the various boutique cosmetic brand displays. These dynamic and uplifting elements not only unify the double height shell of the ground floor but lead the visitor on a journey through a retail experience enhanced by the latest integrated smart technologies.
The low-height space of the mezzanine with its detailed metal screening is synonymous with the fine craftsmanship of the luxury watches on display. The more intimate level’s darker terrazzo flooring with brass inlay provides a boutique environment that focuses on the timepieces in contrast to the brighter spaces of the ground floor.
A fusion of retail and hospitality, the feature wine room showcases the unique quality of Australian wine through a celebration of terroir. The chiselled rock extruding from the ground embodies the Australian landscape with its terracotta and rich ochre coloured soil. Copper beams frame the space as a sophisticated reference to the vernacular of Australian rural buildings.
The wine and spirit area’s rustic display cases, textured materials and joinery all contrast beautifully with the staged, carefully lit bottles. A rear cantilevered island bar and 100-bottle whiskey display create focal points to taste the product and interact with staff including a sommelier for a truly personalised shopping experience.
