Welcoming our new Directors

We are honoured to announce two new Directors who will help contribute to the ongoing success of our citymaking practice.

Both Directors joined Bates Smart in 2012 and bring more than 40 years of collective experience to the firm. Their talent is well respected in the industry, and their expertise will help us continue to design and deliver some of Australia’s most enduring buildings and places.

Mathieu Le Sueur

Mathieu launched our Brisbane studio in June this year, relocating from Sydney. He specialises in the winning and management of large scale, complex architectural projects. He was instrumental in the design and delivery of 1 Denison in North Sydney, as well as our over station development work which aligns with the construction of Sydney Metro. He is now managing and growing client relationships and new projects in Brisbane, leading our local team.

Karen Wong

Karen is a Hong Kong born, British trained architect. She brings an international perspective to Bates Smart, having worked in Australia, the UK, Hong Kong, China and Vietnam. She is an all-round architect and expert in collaboration, often working with large teams of clients, consultants, external stakeholders and Bates Smart employees. Her recent projects include Hilton Melbourne and Collins House. She is currently leading key Build to Rent and residential precinct projects, all underway in Melbourne.
