National awards shortlist represents 'Australia’s leading architectural thought'

AIA National Awards Shortlist

Following the success of the State award programs, two of Bates Smart’s projects were announced this week as finalists in Australia’s National Architecture Awards.

 

Brindabella, having won the Canberra Medallion and the John Andrews Award in ACT, will compete in the Commercial Architecture category. Brindabella was cited by the ACT jury as “a finely crafted, incredibly elegant pair of commercial buildings that demonstrates extreme beauty in complex simplicity.”

Iglu Summer Hill was shortlisted in the Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing category, having been awarded the Aaron Bolot Award by the NSW Chapter. Iglu Summer Hill was described as “sophisticated and robust” architecture, and an “elegant new courtyard building that resolves a difficult site in Summer Hill,” in the NSW Awards.
