New Canberra precinct expands city centre
Canberra is set to be transformed with a new neighbourhood connecting the city centre to Lake Burley Griffin.
We worked alongside Capital Property Group, EM BE CE and JPW Architects to design a vibrant mixed-use precinct, announced by the ACT Government this week as the winner of a public tender process.
The precinct comprises 502 homes – including 76 affordable rental dwellings – a hotel, an A-grade office building and retail, all centred around a new city park. The project will reinvigorate Canberra’s CBD with the promise of fine-grain, active urban blocks.

At the heart of the site, a generous north-facing public space is created at the intersection of new pedestrian laneways. The space is enriched by yarning circles and public art, and fronted by restaurant and cafés. Through passive design strategies, low carbon materials, and on-site power generation, the buildings minimise embodied energy and will achieve carbon-neutral operation.
Informed by First Nations understanding of Country and respecting the natural environment, we aim to regenerate the local biodiversity in a rich and regenerative environment. The concept respects the Griffin’s plans for Canberra and fulfills the promise of fine-grain, populated urban blocks defining Capital Hill.
