Architecture that draws directly from precinct

The architecture and interior design for the new Merivale Street Hotel draws directly from its South Brisbane precinct.

“Materiality is inspired by Brisbane Tuff, a local volcanic rock found uniquely on Brisbane’s cliffs and in some of Brisbane’s oldest buildings. Its form takes cue from the Queensland Art Gallery’s elegant postmodernism. The rectilinear façade and articulated massing make for a striking expression. Landscape is also key; it anchors the ground floor and rooftop, and spills over the building’s planters and balconies.” – Mathieu le Sueur, Director, Bates Smart
