Cross-sector excellence recognised in Institute's Awards shortlist
We’re delighted to have three projects shortlisted this year in the Australian Institute of Architects NSW Architecture Awards.
Ace Hotel, shortlisted for Commercial Architecture, champions the rich history of its Surry Hills site and sensitively integrates a restored Federation warehouse building with a modern glazed tower. Emerging from the historic Tyne House, and accommodating 257 guest rooms and suites over 16 levels, the architecture (Bates Smart) and interiors (Flack Studio + Fiona Lynch Office) blend the past with the contemporary.
The new workplace for Corrs Chambers Westgarth represents the next evolution of workplace design, and is a finalist in the Interior Architecture category. Inspired by a strong sense of place, the interior is highly crafted and seamlessly embedded in the Quay Quarter Tower. The office provides an immersive experience for the law firm to engage with staff and clients, while offering some of the most iconic, uninterrupted views of Sydney Harbour.
Iglu Summer Hill is a student accommodation community in the heart of Summer Hill Village. The site’s existing heritage-listed Western Suburbs District Ambulance Station building has been restored and re-purposed as part of the project. The new buildings are carefully designed to improve street activation and sit sympathetically within their park, village and heritage settings. Iglu Summer Hill is shortlisted for Residential Architecture – Multiple Housing.
