AI Architecture – Digital Muse at Melbourne Design Week

Bringing us closer to designing the world we want

This conceptual installation utilises emerging AI systems to provide reimagined glimpses of Australian landmarks and display them as projections onto the façade of the Bates Smart Gallery.

AI Architecture – Digital Muse is part of Melbourne Design Week, which is an initiative of the Victorian Government in collaboration with the NGV.

This exhibition is an experiment utilising emerging AI generative models, offering a surprising lens through which to perceive the architectural spaces we already know.

This collection of architectural visions has been curated from an extensive array of AI-generated outputs from the latter half of 2022 and is the culmination of a year-long exploration marked by continuous advancements in machine learning.

Bates Smart’s team of designers developed a process of working with generative AI platforms based on textual and visual prompts to yield ethereal moments and fleeting impressions, realising each contributor’s vision.

AI Architecture – Digital Muse presents an intersection of human creativity and artificial intelligence capabilities, providing glimpses of a future where these boundaries blur to reveal new dimensions of artistic expression.

Thanks to all who came out to the launch event for ‘AI Architecture – Digital Muse’ as part of Melbourne Design Week.

Those in attendance experienced 324 reimagined visions of our city landmarks, displayed as projections onto the exterior of the Bates Smart Gallery, and discussed the creative process with our talented contributors.

Congratulations to everyone who made this installation such a success!
