The new workplace for RACV is emblematic of the significant shift that has occurred across the business as a whole. The relocation of over 500 staff from their headquarters in suburban Melbourne to a progressive new workplace in the company’s Bourke Street building marks not only a geographic shift, but a complete business transformation.

Located over three interconnected floors and encompassing 4,800sqm, the new workplace has been designed to support the varied activities of RACV’s different workstyles. In contrast to their former premises, employees now work in an open plan environment centred around team-based neighbourhoods.

Dedicated desks are a thing of the past, as staff are now able to choose where they work; nurturing valuable cross-business collaboration. Supporting the new work practice is a huge upgrade in technology.

In light of such extensive change, the importance of creating a high quality experience for all personnel has not been underestimated. The provision of exceptional amenity and a focus on staff wellbeing formed another cornerstone for the project.

The central collaborative zone, double height staff hub and new interconnecting staircase creates a dramatic centrepiece to the workspace. A light and natural palette is used throughout and is complemented by an outdoor aesthetic which provides staff with break-out sanctuary zones.

The refurbishment extends to the ground floor lobby, which has been activated by the introduction of a new reception point, coffee bar and meeting hubs. These areas provide a valuable interface with the public and the club members who access the RACV City Club in the adjacent building.
