Bates Smart undertook the strategic and functional briefing for legal firm Maddocks’ new workplace, involving a series of workshops with management and staff of all levels.
Maddocks chose Tower D at Collins Square for their new Melbourne workplace. In line with Maddock’s vision and work space strategy, Bates Smart’s workplace design is focused on improving staff productivity, flexibility and collaboration, while maintaining a key focus on wellbeing.
The new workplace offers a more open work environment, designed to nurture both the collaborative and focus workstyles of Maddocks’ legal staff.
A greater diversity of work settings is on offer to suit varied workstyles, with increased mobility supported by an advanced technology infrastructure. Staff are better connected in the new workplace, working on floorplates double the size of their previous location, and connected by a dramatic spiral stair and generous atrium across the 3 levels.
While some senior staff remain in offices, for the most part, the built space is removed from the perimeter, ensuring quality of light and views and encouraging a more open collaborative environment.
A key feature in the design is a triple height void which is dedicated to staff, encouraging work and meetings away from desks and in a more relaxed environment.
Clients and staff also enjoy excellent amenity, including a client working lounge and a signature, double height wintergarden.
