Government Agency, Parramatta
105 Phillip Street, Parramatta, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
A new state-of-the-art contemporary office building has been designed to accommodate approximately 2000 staff in the Bates Smart-designed 105 Philip Street, Parramatta. After over 100 years in their former premises, the building signifies a new chapter and a cultural change for the organisation.
The design for the building is based around the concept of villages in the sky, and significantly every three floors has a shared atrium which helps to optimise access to natural light.
The workspaces needed to embrace a more activity based and agile approach, whilst also taking into consideration the needs of different stakeholders. As a result they have been designed with a variety of different work settings that enable quiet individual work, team work and active collaboration. The open plan and highly transparent spaces are a departure from the more traditional silo approach for departments. Technology has been used extensively to complement the provision of different work settings.
A number of social spaces promote opportunities for social and informal connections between departments. Notably the rooftop has been cleverly utilised and has been transformed into a football pitch and sports facility.
Bates Smart seamlessly integrated the design of the Government Agency fitout into the architecture of the base building.
