Discovery Point is a mixed use residential neighbourhood located in Wolli Creek, 8 km southwest of Sydney’s CBD. The masterplan proposes 14 buildings comprising approximately 1,350 apartments with ground floor retail uses, including cafes, restaurants, specialty retail and a supermarket. A new commercial building will redefine the entrance to Wolli Creek railway station.

The design extends the existing street pattern and establishes an urban form defined by three distinct precincts. Each precinct is set in and around a variety of new and existing public open spaces that take advantage of the close proximity to Cooks River.

The southern precinct is organised around a new village square flanked by retail space, cafes and restaurants with a pedestrian street providing direct access to the existing railway station. Beyond the station, buildings within the Northern Precinct open up to the river, maximizing the number of apartments with water views and creating a north facing park overlooked by waterfront dining. The eastern precinct proposes two new buildings whose form reinforces the arc defined by existing buildings located along the edge of Discovery Point Park. Buildings vary in height with linear block edge towers stepping down towards the centre of the site. Two landmark towers are strategically located to define the southern gateway to Discovery Point and act as a station marker.

To promote housing choice, a range of residential typologies are proposed. High-rise apartments enjoy distant city views while low-rise apartments overlook generous new open space. At ground level two-storey townhouses line a quiet residential street and duplex apartments benefit from prime river frontage. Central to the proposal are a number of environmental initiatives including site wide water recycling, and buildings designed and orientated to maximise passive initiatives such as solar access and natural ventilation.
