Victoria Architecture Awards 2022 Winner

The Hilton Melbourne Little Queen Street was awarded the Heritage – Creative Adaptation Award at the Victoria Architecture Awards 2022.

An elegant mix of old and new, the hotel celebrates the city’s ‘Marvellous Era’ through its reimagining of the heritage-listed Equity Chambers building, as well the additions of a rooftop extension and 17-level tower.

The Inter-War Romanesque facade and 30m of building depth are incorporated into a new Hilton Hotel in an adaptation and conservation project that has embraced the challenge of keeping the 1930s spatial planning hierarchy and maintaining the original nature of the layout, as it relates to a conventional office interior of the period.

Working closely with Lovell Chen allowed the comprehensive conservation and sensitive integration of the rich heritage fabric into the overall programme, gently repurposing the elements that have been retained.
